The following page provides information on how to find resources on a specific playwright.  Learning about the playwright's life can provide context as to why the play was written. 

Biographical Resources (books)

Search the library catalog with the name of the playwright. Adding keywords like biography or theater/theatre will narrow down your search. The following are some search examples:

You may have to dig a bit for biographical information on certain playwrights. Sometimes this information is included in anthologies and general works. For instance, when finding additional information on Terence, you may have to look at books like A Companion to Latin Literature (tip: you can do a keyword search in ebooks).
