The mission of Vanguard University is to pursue knowledge, cultivate character, deepen faith, and equip each student for a Spirit-empowered life of Christ-centered leadership and service.
The goal of Academic Faith Integration at Vanguard is to facilitate student awareness regarding the way the various academic disciplines and professional programs relate to an understanding of the Christian faith informed by: (1) the metanarrative presented in the sacred scriptures; (2) the “Great Tradition” that unites the major historic expressions of Christianity; and (3) the university’s Pentecostal heritage. Another focal point is to thoughtfully investigate ways in which the various disciplines and programs provide insights toward a fully faithful and fruitful embodiment of the Christian faith in the contemporary era.
While a significant aspect of Vanguard's mission is the spiritual formation of our students, not all faculty will engage in this task in the same way as part of their classroom instruction. It is expected, however, that the way they function inside and outside the classroom will, in a gracious, winsome manner, encourage (not coerce) students toward a personal embrace of a Christian faith that augurs toward a Spirit-empowered, Christ-honoring, missionally impactful Christian lifestyle.
Toward this end, Vanguard University is committed to a collaborative, dialogical, synergistic approach to equipping and resourcing faculty members with respect to the academic faith integration endeavor. We are in this together!
